"The human condition be described as the unalterable part of humanity that is inherent and innate to all human beings. It includes concerns such as the meaning of life, the search for gratification, the sense of curiosity, the inevitability of isolation, and awareness regarding the inescapability of death."
From the touch of man on the land that we live in, to the very aspects of humanity, which make us who we are, the human condition is a constant theme in my work.
My photographs seek to capture the moments when a person lowers their guards, and allows themselves to be vulnerable, and thus visible. From the contact between a mother and child to a homeless man on a corner, I can see the humanity in all of them. A photograph seeks to capture a fleeting moment , frozen forever as a visible, tangible image. My drawing has the same principle, but with one difference: it is reversed. The figure sits, finds a comfortable place, and is observed. The result is a very intimate, honest image. The figure is an ever-present, very real aspect of my artwork, whether it be the Venetian mask, or a drawn figure, or a photograph.
My paintings and etchings are created with a nostalgia, a longing. Nostalgia for the uncorruption that can never be found in our world, and a longing for a place that is familiar, because of it's corruption and interruption, perhaps even my own, whether it be a path that I ran along or the road I drive on to return home. In landscapes, I seek to find the places that it seems that man has not touched, or to find the places that he has so clearly made an impression upon, to understand how we shape the world around us.
My artwork, my photography, painting, and everything I create, is, for me, an expression of my own humanity, and an expression of my desire to understand myself, and the world around me.
